Youngdahl Consulting Group provided geotechnical engineering and oversight for the new 53,235 square foot hangar to house the Global Hawk aircraft. We also provided special inspection services and materials testing for reinforced concrete, structural masonry, structural steel moment frames, and high strength bolt testing. We worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to complete this project in 2006 and 2007.

Youngdahl Consulting Group provided a geotechnical engineering study, grading plan review, fault study, NOA assessment, and construction, observation and testing for a proposed 990 acre hillside residential development that will include the construction of eight subdivisions (units), a school site, park site, clubhouse and information center. 
The geotechnical challenges that Youngdahl faced on this project included asbestos dust mitigation, hard rock rippability, fractured rock seepage, compaction of rocky fills, and fractured rock slope stability. Also, the site location straddles the Bear Mountain Fault Zone. 

Youngdahl Consulting Group, Inc. has been retained by EID under numerous annual contracts to provide geotechnical engineering, inspection and materials testing for various treatment, storage, and pipeline facilities throughout the EID service district. 

Quality assurance and inspection services for construction of pipeline and associated pump stations include earthwork quality assurance testing, monitoring of pipeline installation, pipe bedding and shading, compaction testing during backfill operations.  Asphalt observation and quality assurance testing was performed on the paved areas.  When necessary we sampled and tested the concrete and grout materials used.

Youngdahl Consulting Group provided a Geotechnical Engineering Study for the Palladio Mall, including the proposed office buildings, retaining walls, access drives and parking areas.  Our study consisted of a site reconnaissance, subsurface exploration, surface and subsurface soil and rock sampling, and field and laboratory tests.  This was followed by recommendations for site preparation and grading, geotechnical design criteria for foundations, retaining structures, slabs-on-grade, asphalt concrete pavements, and underground facilities. Youngdahl remained on site during the construction phase to ensure the geotechnical recommendations were incorporated correctly and to provide construction, observation and testing. 

The Palladio Mall is to be constructed on a 57-acre unimproved lot located west of East Bidwell Street between Broadstone Parkway and Iron Point Road in Folsom, CA.  Proposed construction is expected to include 22 retail/office structures, a theater complex, a grocery store and two parking structures.  All of the retail structures are proposed to be one-story and of steel frame construction.  The office building is proposed to be four stories, also of steel frame construction. The theater complex and grocery store are anticipated to be one to two stories and of concrete masonry unit (CMU) construction.  The parking structures are proposed to be two to three stories and constructed of post-tension concrete.  All of the structures will be supported on shallow conventional foundations and concrete slab-on-grade floors.

LABORATORY TESTING SERVICES

Youngdahl is currently serving as quality control for several aggregate quarries in order to ensure a consistent and reliable product. We perform aggregate testing in accordance with Caltrans, El Dorado Irrigation District, and ASTM standards such as:

• Sand Equivalent
• Resistance Value

Youngdahl is working alongside the USACE providing quality assurance on the new Folsom Bridge project connecting East Natoma Street and Folsom-Auburn Road.  Our laboratory routinely conducts several tests such as:

• Concrete compression
• Moisture density curve
• Sieve analysis
• Atterberg limit

Youngdahl has earned the “Outstanding Performance Rating” as the USACE quality assurance laboratory for Northern California and Northern Nevada.
